FAQ - Why Isn't This Free?

Nothing is really ever entirely "for free".

The price charged for the "Fingertips" Cd-rom (and on-line subscriptions) is not for the public-domain material as such, but for the value-enhancing elements added by our editor, Patrick Rogers, and publisher, The FIEN Group.

The project is a labor of love; particularly the:

Introductions to all the authors and many of the works
consistent, coherent organization of a searchable library
linking sections for each of the book categories and authors.

Fact is, the creation of this program required lots of time, energy and expertise... which must in some way be paid for.

We are not a grant-maintained project, hosted by either a consortium or a university (Dr. Rogers works at a small, private college).

The CD includes a sophisticated licensed search engine: Folio Views®.

Further, the creation and maintenance of such a large web-site costs time and money.
